Permanent hair removal in Oconomowoc.
Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal. It works by targeting each hair follicle individually, preventing future hair growth at the source.
Things to Know Prior to Your Appointment:
-
Hydration is Mandatory
Drink Water: Drink plenty of water the day before and the day of your treatment. Well-hydrated follicles conduct electrical currents more efficiently and allows your skin to heal faster.
-
Hair Length Requirements
Stop waxing, plucking, or threading immediately as this prolongs treatment and distorts hair follicles.
Shaving is allowed during the entirety of your electrolysis journey, but please allow three days of growth prior to your scheduled appointment.
-
Skin and Product Restrictions
Clean Skin Only: Arrive with clean skin. The treatment area must be completely free of makeup, lotions, oils, deodorants, and perfumes.
Avoid Sun Exposure: Excessive sun exposure not only dries the skin out, but can cause skin irritation when combined with your electrolysis treatment. Sunburned skin can not be treated.
-
Pain Management
Topical Anesthetics: If you plan to use an over-the-counter topical numbing cream (such as 5% Lidocaine), apply it thick like frosting to the treatment area one hour before your session. Wrap the area tightly in plastic cling wrap to keep cream from drying out. Your electrologist will remove the numbing cream throughout the treatment to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Many clients find that taking an oral pain reliever about thirty minutes prior to their appointment helps sensation during the appointment and minimizes swelling afterwards.
-
Stimulants and Menstrual Cycle
Limit Caffeine and Alcohol: Avoid caffeine (coffee, energy drinks, chocolate) and alcohol prior to your appointment. Stimulants increase skin sensitivity
Navigate Alongside Your Menstrual Cycle: Some clients experience more sensitivity prior to their cycle due to hormone fluctuations that naturally make your nerve endings more reactive.
-
Avoid Skin Irritants
Avoid Seven Days Before Treatment: Retinoids, strong exfoliants, chemical peels
Medications such as Accutane/Isotretinoin must be stopped at least (six) months before treatment to prevent severe skin damage.
